Meet Bishop Carter
A man with a love for God and the work of ministry, Elder Gary V. Carter is a man on a mission.
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Carter has been impacted by the church throughout his life. His first examples of living for Christ were his loving parents, Brother Willie M. Carter and Sister Dorothy B. Carter. Gary accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and it was evident that the hand of God was upon his life.
From his childhood he was a faithful member of First Full Gospel Pentecostal Church. This ministry and the founding pastor would have a major influence on his life and motivate him to serve in ministry. Mentored by his pastor and spiritual father, the late Bishop Harold Smith, for over 50 years, Carter has worked in many aspects of church ministry. At the tender age of 11, he shared with Bishop Smith that when he became an adult his desire was to become a preacher of the gospel. He graduated from South Oak Hill High School in 1974 and was appointed the church bus driver, a position he served faithfully for 15 years. By the age of 19 he preached his first sermon and it was entitled, “Store Up Your Treasures in Heaven” with a scripture emphasis based on Matthew 6:20-21, “…for where your treasure is, your heart will be there also.”
After graduating from high school, Carter decided to further his education and attended Christ for the Nations Institute (CFNI), an interdenominational Bible College. During his time at CFNI he earned a Certificate of Discipleship and Leadership. Later, he was ordained as an Elder in the Full Gospel Pentecostal Missionary Association (FGPMA). In the FGPMA, Elder Carter was appointed by Bishop Smith to serve as the Central District Youth Congress President a role that he served in for 20 years.
In addition to serving as Youth Congress President, Elder Carter was the Youth Leader in his local church. His overall goal was to instill the love of God’s Word into the heart of youth. As the Bible states, “Thy Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee.” Psalms 119:11. A talented musician, he has played his saxophone to the glory of God in churches for over 20 years. An administrator, he worked informally as the Director of Operations for First Full Gospel Church, faithfully ensuring that the church continued to operate and that the doors were open to the public.
The call of ministry from God led him to become a pastor. In 2017, he founded God’s House Redeemed Ministries Pentecostal Church a church and outreach ministry in South Dallas. As pastor he continues preach the gospel of Christ to help a lost and dying generation.
In the secular field, Carter is a businessman and has been blessed with an entrepreneurial spirit. Since 1990, he has run and owned several businesses and even marketed his own collection of auto cleaning products.
He is married to Sister Pamela K. Carter and is the father of four children, three sons, Kedrick, Edrick, and Gabriel and one daughter, Angelica. A scripture that has guided his life is “Trust in the Lord with all thy heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and he shall direct thy paths.” In his spare time he enjoys riding his motorcycle, jet skiing, boating, and collecting vintage cars.
